Answers to our most Frequently Asked Questions about Family Fitness Fun playshops.
In TrainMovePlay Family Fitness Fun Playshops, we activate vestibular, tactile, proprioceptive, and interoceptive senses with games, yoga, obstacles, and more.

Read more about Sensory-integrating play and how we incorporate it into our playshops in our article, What are Family Fitness Fun Playshops?
What is Sensory-integrating play?
Sensory-integrating play is activity that helps people activate, engage, and integrate their senses through play. At TrainMovePlay we focus specifically on the vestibular, tactile, proprioceptive, and interoceptive senses.
What kinds of activities are used?
Obstacle courses including lots of opportunities to climb, swing, crawl, jump, balance, roll, run, and use all of our energy.Â
Partner and group games that promote cooperation, creativity, trust, and connection.Â
Storytime yoga and Acroyoga that help us focus inward to experience our bodies, from the inside out, with gratitude and confidence.Â
Props like music, bean bags, relays, ribbons, bubbles, hoops… whatever we have on hand!Â
Is it the same every time?
Never. We couldn’t if we tried. We have a plan, but we always respond to the energy and needs of the group, so no two classes are exactly the same.Â
How long is it?
Usually, from 60-90 mins, depending on the ages present, the groups’ attention span and needs for that day. Some days we might use the whole time for guided activities. Other days we may leave more time for exploration and open play. Or snacks. Always snacks.Â
Who can come? What is the target age group?
Generally, playshops are targeted for 3-8 year olds, but older and younger siblings are welcome to join us. At least one adult must be present and active.Â
Ages 5-8 years seem to be the sweet spot for the development of sensory processing and modulation, but we start on these tasks from day 1 of life.
What should we bring? What do we wear?
-
- Water bottle with water.
- A snack, not too messy.
- Comfy clothes like yoga or workout attire, sweats, t-shirt, layers.Â
- Bare feet are best for stimulating the tactile sense. Otherwise, grippy socks or tennis shoes. Clogs, flip flops or other loose-fitting shoes are not recommended.Â
Will I get a workout?
Yes.
What kind of qualifications and experience do the leaders have?
Sarah and Martin each have graduate degrees in movement – Martin in Exercise Science and Sarah in Dance. We hold certifications in yoga and acroyoga and have a combined 40+ years experience teaching gymnastics, dance, yoga, acro, parkour, and more to people ages 1 to 100.
Also, we have two boys. We got this!Â
